I consider myself very lucky and had the opportunity to stay in Bend for three weeks this summer while I did my Yoga Teacher Training. I’ve visited plenty of times, but living there gave me the chance to explore more than I ever have. I’ve compiled my favorite places to eat, explore, shop, workout, and get coffee/matcha. As usual, let me know what you think!
Where to eat:
Fix and Repeat: Chic decor and killer acai bowls–what more could you want? This spot located in the Box Factory area of Bend serves bowls, smoothies, and juices. It’s adorable and airy and the staff are even more wonderful than the food. This is one of my Bend favorites, for sure. Try the Crossfix smoothie for perfect post-workout fuel.
Mother’s Cafe: With three locations throughout Bend, Mother’s Cafe is sure to please anybody. Honestly, I’m not thrilled with their smoothies, but their sandwiches, bowls, and juices are on point.
Drake: This is a perfect date night spot with delish Americana food. I made reservations and thought initially they were unnecessary, but Drake filled up pretty quickly (even on a Sunday night). Their burger had gooey cheese sauce on it. Heart eyes emoji, am I right?
Wild Oregon FoodsWild Oregon Foods: Don’t let the location or the decor fool you; this place is awesome. I was initially put off by this spot nestled in a strip mall, but I was sold once I saw their wall listing the exact ranch/farm that every ingredient was from. This place has SO much potential and their bison burger was so satisfying.
Bonta Natural Artisan Gelato: The name says it all. This gem is located in downtown Bend and serves countless all natural gelato flavors. My last time in, I had a split scoop of vegan coconut milk chocolate and spiced almond butter gelato. YUM.
Pure Joy Kitchen: This hidden gem has one of the best vegan smoothies/milkshakes I’ve ever had the joy (heh) of having. The ChocoMaca Milkshake was to die for and they have lots of other vegan and raw desserts to swoon over.
Other honorable mentions: 10 Barrel Brewing, Crux Fermentation Project, Deschutes Brewery, Townshend’s Tea Company Teahouse
Where to explore:
Drake Park: Adjacent to downtown Bend, Drake Park hugs the Deschutes River and is the perfect spot for a picnic or some outdoor yoga. On the right day, you can catch beautiful mountain views and you can always catch people kayaking or SUPing.
Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway: About 20 miles west of Bend, the Cascade Lakes Highway is full of amazing views and hikes at every turnout. Check out Sparks Lake or Devil’s Lake for killer views without the workout, and go hiking at Tumalo Mountain or Green Lakes Trail (or South Sister if you’re feeling particularly daring). Read my tips for beginning hikers before you go!
Pilot Butte: You can drive or hike to the top of Pilot Butte, just a few minutes from downtown Bend, for beautiful 360 views of Central Oregon. Pilot Butte is a very accessible way to see Bend from above.
Smith Rock State Park: Smith Rock is 100% worth the 45 minute drive north. It’s one of my favorite state parks and the sunsets here are incredible. It gets reeeeal hot and there’s no tree cover so if you want to do a strenuous hike, I’d recommend going really early.
Where to workout:
Wild Thing Yoga: Okay, I’m biased because I did my YTT here, but I LOVE this studio. Helen, the owner, is wonderful and welcoming, and community vibes radiate here. They host mostly Vinyasa classes, with some Yin and Yoga Sculpt classes. Parking is super easy here and they have lots of classes available throughout the day. They also host a ton of outdoor yoga classes in the summer!
Cyclebar: If you are in Bend and are missing Soulcycle, here you go. It’s a fairly standard spin class, only with kombucha and beer on tap for after you get your butt kicked. Also it’s the best smelling exercise studio I’ve ever been to AND it’s right next door to Lululemon. Count me in.
NamaSpa: Namaspa is a Baptiste affiliate yoga studio, though they have classes for many levels available. They also have massages so there’s that.
(Note: there are also barre3 and Orangetheory studios here. Check those out too!)
Where to shop:
Lark: When I think about how I want my home decorated, I think of Lark. If blogging made me a millionaire, this is where I would shop. Beautiful prints, work from local artisans, midmod planters, and macarame hangings abound here.
Ju Bee Lee: One of my favorite shops in downtown Bend sells the cutest clothes, books, calendars, jewelry, candles, crystals, and more. Save your allowance for this place fer sure.
Hello Sunshine: Hello Sunshine is a super cute store located in the Old Mill District. They have cute jewelry, home decor, books, Oregon gear, and more.
Where to get coffee/matcha:
Companion Coffeehouse: This adorable coffee shop is located right next to my favorite yoga studio in town. They serve delicious food (hello avo toast) and I love their almond milk matcha with vanilla and honey. Friends say their coffee is dreamy too.
Strictly Organic: With two locations, Strictly Organic is the quirky coffee shop that every Oregon town needs. They have tons of coffee, tea, and food options with a large outdoor seating area at their main location.
I’m still a Bend rookie so tell me if I missed any of the necessities! Bend is one of my favorite places to visit and I can’t wait to be back there again soon.
Thanks for reading! Check back soon.
